This week somewhere between half-time techno & dubstep - hope some of You are locked and join us in the chat! Based in the rather weird city of Wiesbaden, Germany - and therefore pretty remote from any decent music-scene of the country - S-Max has been very busy in adding to the local micro-scene; in particular by setting up Boogizm Records together with Manutchehr “FYM” Ghassemlou as well as by running the Superbleep-nights together with his mate, Playhouse’s dub-techno-pioneer, Lo Soul. As S-Max specialised in puzzling out half-time detroit-patterns, releases on labels such as Detroit-based 7th City Records and remixes for Ectomorph followed. Recently, he became quite influenced by dubstep, resulting in strangely sluggish versions of bass-heavy techno-steppers.

After a number of spectacular cases in the past months, where whole families had been deported after years of residence in Austria, a broad solidarity movement has evolved in many regions of the country. With it’s main claim, the right of abode of foreign families who have become very much part of local communities, the movement is directly confronting the government’s strict policy on deportation. Only a couple of days ago, a campaign was launched in order to prevent the deportation of two families, who have been living and working in Austrian cities for many years, whose children are attending local schools and are part of the local soccer-team.

The split-up of the governmental coalition between the Social-democrats and the Conservatives in June resulted in general elections scheduled for the end of September. Fearing to loose votes to right-extremist parties, the Conservatives have started the concentrate on migration-policies as one of their main themes for the election-campaign, whereas the Social-democrats have picked up an EU-critical policy strongly supported by Austria’s strongest and far-right tabloid, Kronen Zeitung. The far right on their hand, react with even more extreme policies - Jörg Haider, founder of the small nationalist party BZÖ and governor of its stronghold, the southern province of Carinthia, has started to actually deport asylum-seekers to other provinces under dubious pretences.

With the introduction of the election campaingns by the end of summer, it is to fear that the situation for asylum-seekers and migrants will get even worse. The day of action intends to visibly oppose xenophoby and to rise public awareness for introduction of the right of abode to the Austrian legislation.

Whereas Play FM’s monthly Garage Sessions will be continued by Jay-S, there will be a monthly sound/text-podcast called Dub Central on Radio Orange 94.0 every last Friday of the month.

Different styled & tricky grooving dubstep - TIP!

Spärliche Informationen. Aber dafür verdammt unerwartete Musik. Das sollte viel öfter passieren. Der erste Track wirkt auf mich ein wenig wie ein 2Step-Detroitsound, den es nie - warum? - gegeben hat. Vertrackte Melodien wie zu den besten Zeiten von Morgan Geist, an die sich heutzutage kaum noch wer erinnert, eigentümliche Grooves, in denen schon mal eine einsame Cowbell heldenhaft aufblitzt, dann so ein deep-verwirrtes Stück galaktischer Housemusik für den Jungle - ich musste erst nochmal nachsehen, ob die Platte wirklich aus dieser Zeit stammt. Die Rückseite spielt ein wenig mit Dubstep, das aber auf eine so ungewöhnliche Weise, dass man sofort begeistert ist. 4 perfekte Tracks jenseits aller Richtungen. Wer Platten liebt, die neue Wege zeigen und sich von nichts beeindrucken lassen, der wird Dubsquare lieben. BLEED
