Werner Geier has died yesterday
Yesterday, November 13, 2007, Werner Geier aka Demon Flowers has died.
Fritz Ostermayer said about him: “Werner Geier seemed to have been a rare exemplar of a man without enemy nor enviers.” And that was for a good reason: his contribution to the scene was culture. On every level.
Years after his withdrawal from public life, he gave a long interview to Heinz Reich on FM4, eventually the most impressive 2.5 hours of radio I can remember. I had never met Geier personally, but I could never forget the things he said in this interview. For a strange reason I had to think about Werner Geier this morning; later the day I read the news. Now I’m struck.
Rest In Peace Werner Geier!

Dubsquare Radio (November 9)
First part of the show Box Of Dub 2 vs. fresh tunes by the ones like Hopper, Lefthandpath, Metalbox, Trishes, Two Oh One, Westernsynthetics & myself plus dates & politrix as per usual. For part two we got special guests Biomat & DvaUnlimited from Bratislava in the building!
DvaUnlimited are (a) makers of a bi-weekly radio show on internet-radio Tlis, devoted to exploring the intersections of city-life and beats (b) promoters and laptop-djs hidden under the banner of BWO! nights held in Subclub. In both cases, currently in love with dubstep, dub techno and all fractions that break out of the box. Biomat is another resident of BWO!, forging his own path through the bass jungle, mixing Ninja Tune material with zombie dubstep (big fan of H.e.n.c.h crew and Loefah) and gunshot grime. Expect some local (czechoslovak) production, other curiosities and stories from “making-of”.

On November 9, 2007 numerous events commemorate the 69th anniversary of the anti-semitic November Pogrom, during which thousands of Jews were killed in 1938. Here an overview of some activities in Austria can be found.
After the Declaration Of Oujda had been released earlier the month, repression against migrants in Morocco has reached another peak by the end of October: massive arrests have been reported simultaneously from Rabat and Oujda. The “Association Beni Znassen for culture” (ABCDS) has released an urgent call for help, in which the principal cooperation between Morocco and the EU is outlined.
In Brescia, Italy around 15.000 migrants were protesting on October 27, 2007 against a new law on the renewal of resident permits.
In Vienna, Austria a home for asylum seekers at Gänsebachergasse was cleared ‘Fond Soziales Wien’, the city’s department for social affairs which is in charge of the building. The action started on October 29 and was announced to the residents only a week before. Concerned inhabitants and NGOs criticized the city-government’s ad-hoc relocation of asylum seekers which suddenly tears them out their familiar environment. IPRED2, a directive on criminal measures aimed at ensuring the enforcement of intellectual property rights was passed the EU parliament last week. In case of its implementation without clear limits, “aiding, abetting, or inciting” copyright infringement on a “commercial scale” in the EU will become a crime.
